Western DV428 FSU739 Edinburgh 1995

Once a frontline London coach, DV428 (originally GGE128X) is seen ehre in Edinburgh in 1995 on service 100 from Dumfries, a long-established service, at that time still jointly worked by SMT (formerly Eastern Scottish) and Western.

Originally with parallelogram-shaped windows as a Dominant 3, in common with many such stablemates throughout SBg it was rebuilt with normal glazing for more general duties. Some of Western's rebuilds, such as this one, differed from many others throughout the group, in using these shallow flat glasses, allegedly the same as those fitted to Alexander conversions of Merc L608D minibuses. I always thought they worked quite well on the fairly low-built Dominant.

Although into the period of Stagecoach's ownership here, It is still wearing one of Western's many variants of black/grey/red/white, although plenty of Citylink yellow from its previous role is visible showing through around the front.

I liked these coaches and it's shame none of them were preserved. It would be a brave and wealthy man....
