Ford Zodiac Executive

The Mk IV Zephyr/Zodiac range appeared in 1966 and was radically different to the previous popular model. I found the Mk IV quite appealing having a square-look not unlike the Mk II Cortina which also appeared later in 1966. The range featured 2.0 V4 & 2.5 V6 engines in Zephyrs and 3.0 V6 engines in Zodiacs (no worries about fuel prices/shortages in the mid 1960s).

The Zephyr came with a bench front seat and steering column change, and my father bought one to take the family of 6 (4 adults & 2 children) on a touring trip around Ireland in 1968. This was a good move as there was plenty of room for us all, including luggage. The spare wheel was housed under the long impressive looking bonnet. The Zodiac came with bucket front seats as standard though a bench seat was offered as an option.

Sadly for me, the Zephyr was Dad's last Ford until a few years ago when he returned to the blue oval by opting for a Focus.

The Executive was the top of the range model, and this nice example, which being K reg would be one of the last, was at Totally Transport, Blackpool on 28 June 09.

The Zephyr/Zodiac names disappeared from the Ford range in 1972 when the more successful Granada range arrived on the scene.
