Sunderland Corporation Transport 48 (WBR248) - 05-05-19
Preserved former Sunderland Corporation Transport Atkinson Alpha/Marshall, 48 (WBR248), seen here travelling along n display at the North East Bus Preservation Trust's North East Bus and Coach Show at the Gateshead Metrocentre on the 5th May 2019.
New in 1964, this was one of a small batch of three vehicles of this type to be bought by Sunderland and this vehicle holds the distinction of being the last Atkinson vehicle to be bodied as a Public Service Vehicle. Infamous for their very high floor level, they were not the most passenger-friendly buses, but with their rugged construction and Gardner-powered engines, they proved to be very reliable vehicles.
