1000 piece puzzle, "Parable of the Blind" by Pieter Brueghel the Elder; Bristlegrass, China.

Here is a Brueghel painting I had not been familiar with before seeing this offered on Ali Express by Chinese brand Bristlegrass. One of Brueghel's final works, made a year before his death, it is a reference to the "blind leading the blind" Biblical parable found in Matthew 15:14.

According to the Wikipedia entry, "[t]he painting depicts a procession of six blind, disfigured men. They pass along a path bordered by a river on one side and a village with a church on the other. The leader of the group has fallen on his back into a ditch and, because they are all linked by their staffs, seems about to drag his companions down with him."

Building this puzzle was a lot easier than the Japanese woodblock print I did just before it. The richness of detail made it not so easy to misplace these identically shaped pieces. When I had the thing completed, I flipped it over and discovered, like the famous Radiohead song, "everything in its right place." After the other puzzle, this seemed like a minor triumph.

Unfortunately, a technical issue messed up my timing for the puzzle, so although I'm guessing it took about 5 hours, I do not have an official time.

Completed with no box reference. Not timed.
