Cutting through Lincoln

I've shot a lot of trains heading through the cut at Lincoln, Minn. but I was far from the first. Back in June 1957 the Minnesota Railfans Association held a photo run here with NP 4-8-4 2686 on its last run. 21 years later its ex-NP F9 No. 780 leading Burlington Northern train 124 through the cut on Oct. 8, 1978 along with an F9B and two GP20s. Train 124 and its counterpart 123 ran between Grand Forks and Northtown and almost always had F's account BN assigning many of the streamlined units to both terminals.
