MN&S in the preserve

It's been almost 40 years since the Minneapolis, Northfield & Southern was purchased by the Soo Line. It was a really cool road with a lot of history. Surprisingly, 40 years later, the railroad is virtually intact and still used, with the exception of the main line between Savage and Lakeville, which has long been unused. Progressive Rail came along in 1996 and adopted the MN&S color scheme, and even has three ex-MN&S diesels. I always thought one of the scenic highlights of the line was where it passed through the Hyland Lake Park Reserve in Bloomington. This is the High Line local making its way south there on June 8, 1982. Of course today this shot is grown over like so many spots. A CP local passes through here a few times a week bringing cars to PGR. Note the ski jump in the background.
