Late in La Crosse
On April 3, 1972, I played hooky from high school and rode the North Coast Hi from Minneapolis to La Crosse - alone, at age 15 (try that today). This was in the days we actually had two (!) passenger trains between the Twin Cities and Chicago. The Empire Builder was late that day, and rolled in behind our train with BN/CB&Q E8 9948 leading. This was my only shot of a Burlington painted E-unit in action. For a view of the train I left La Crosse on, go to www.flickr.com/photos/2719/4467364208.
