Serendipity on CN

Seeing that July 6 was going to be a rare blue sky day in Minnesota, I intended to go to southern Minnesota to do some shooting. I actually drove south from my home past downtown St. Paul, but seeing virtually no activity on ATCS in the southern part of the state, I turned around and drove north. Had a nice chase of a UP northbound on the Hinckley Sub, stopped in at Carr’s Hobby in Duluth, had lunch with a friend, and stopped in at the gift shop at the railroad museum. I had no idea that CN was running some of it’s new power north that afternoon until I saw a message from DCS that a pair were heading north after being delayed in Gary. In a case of total luck, I ended up following the train with the two new GEs from Saginaw all the way to Cook on the DW&P. Here the spotless pair grind north at Iron Junction with M343.
