"Palace of Fine Arts"

"Pan.-Pac. Int. Exposition, San Francisco, 1915, No. 14" from the art print book Views Of The PPIE Exposition.

The Palace of Fine Arts is the sole surviving building still standing on the PPIE site. Sort of. Over the years it was completely rebuilt. To read about and see photos of its restoration, see Palace of Fine Arts: What happened to the rest of the landmark? and 50 years later: The Palace of Fine Arts, and the rebuilding that almost didn't happen.

Several other PPIE structures were moved and reused. A pagoda and two gates from the Japanese Pavilion were installed at the Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park. The Ohio State Building was transported by barge to Belmont in San Mateo County. The army maintained the Oregon Building on its Presidio location as a military clubhouse until 1921 when it was demolished; pieces were used to construct a house on Vincente Avenue in Berkeley.
