Nofukuji_Buddha_Scan_reverse_011
From March 1907 to March 1918, a third of the reverse side of a Japanese postcards was allocated for a message. (Previously, the message was allowed only on the picture side.) This postcard was made by Hoshinoya, a major postcard company at the time. Hoshinoya used star marks as their logo mark because 'hoshi' means 'star' in Japanese. The website postcards.wikidot.com/publishers-initials explains the letters inside it as "HY" for "Hoshinoya, Yokohama."
