U is for Ukulele
The ukulele is a member of the lute family of instruments. It generally employs four nylon strings. It is a small guitar-like instrument, which was introduced to Hawaii by Portuguese immigrants from Madeira.
Not sure why we have one as I don't recall any member of our family ever playing one? It's been sitting in my basement untouched for decades, and could use a little TLC. But since today is "U" day, it sure came in handy!
