Softbox or Umbrella?
*EXPLORED* My very first top ten explore too! Thankyou to all of you! :-)*
*Best position #4 February 5th, 2010*
Still playing around with my DIY flashes and learning along the way.
One thing I realised is that although umbrella diffusers are handy the damn things show up in any reflective surface. So I constructed myself a diffuser screen to act as a kind of softbox, (white cotton sheeting stapled across a large picture frame). Works pretty well.
Here I just played around with the idea of the original problem of the umbrella reflection and pinned a black cardboard cutout of an umbrella shape on the diffuser screen.
I quite like it :-)
Strobist info:
DIY Studio Flash set at full power (90W/S), opposite camera triggered by camera onboard flash set at 1/64th power.
DIY diffuser screen placed between flash and subject with a cardboard cutout of an umbrella shape pinned to screen.
Water droplets placed by hand with a syringe, (I know, maddening!), on a black instrument panel.
DOF is not expansive but at f14 it's not bad, (handy having 4/3rds!)
