Drenkelingenhuisje op Vlieland

The western half of the island of Vlieland consists of the deserted sands of the Vliehors. It is nicknamed "The Sahara of the north". For the most part military training area. But when the guns are silent in the weekend, this stunning area is freely accessible to walkers.
On the Vliehors you can find this little house, the rescue hut.

Midden op de Vliehors staat al meer dan een eeuw het drenkelingenhuisje. In vroeger dagen was het een vluchtplaats voor gestrande schipbreukelingen. Naast droge kleren, water en voedsel was er ook een telefoonverbinding met het Posthuys.
Tegenwoordig is het drenkelingenhuisje in bezit van de Vliehors Expres en ingericht als juttersmuseum. Er is een bonte verzameling aanwezig van gejutte strandvondsten. In 1997 is het Reddingshuisje officieel aangewezen als trouwlocatie.
