The Final Walk

I've got two more seasons left but for some amazing people...There aren't any.

Marching band is full of life lessons. Just in this season we've learned to say goodbye, we've learned to always push forward, to do our best, to be great. We've learned to handle losses on the field...And off the field as well, to handle death, and to handle emotions.

I have heard it said before, that high school sets you up for the rest of your life. You learn how to be an adult. You take certain classes to learn life lessons, and to make sure everything goes smoothly.

But to be completely honest...I can't think of a more life-preparing, useful class than marching band.

Better than any other class (In my opinion) it sets you up for the life ahead of you.

You make life-long friends, you learn discipline, and when to have fun. You learn how to have fun. You learn leadership, and how to be obedient. You see the world, or maybe just the amazing places around you.

You even learn minor things, you know, like perfect posture, how to be strong, how many French fries you could possibly fit in your mouth at one time.

I've been in band for 5 years now (I'm currently in my 6th) and these past 2 years have been so good to me.

This year's seniors are just as great as last years, and it's only going to get harder to say goodbye.

I will admit, this was a tough season. Physically and emotionally. We weren't the best, and didn't do well.

We took 10th out of 10th at championships this past Saturday. And it sucks.

But for once, I don't care. Lowery, our director, says it was our best show yet. And for that, I am proud. I am happy.

Here's to you, 2011 season. I hope 2012 will be just as great.
