"I believe it was John Cage who once told me, 'When you start working, everybody is in your studio- the past, your friends, enemies, the art world, and above all, your own ideas- all are there. But as you continue painting, they start leaving, one by one, and you are left completely alone. Then, if you're lucky, even you leave.'" Philip Guston

"The first question I ask myself when something doesn't seem to be beautiful is why do I think it's not beautiful. And very shortly you discover that there is no reason." John Cage

My Gestures 15 project consists of a further engagement and exploration through the practice of dying and prosaic crafts/building trades, etc. The thrust of the "artwork" is the act of work itself, but also it becomes for me a means of functioning within a personal aesthetic, philosophical, and political framework in which I negotiate the world. Essentially in preparing the room for the next exhibition, through a combination of both erasure and exposure of previous activities, I (re)create a corner of reality.
