Villaggio del Pescatore (Duino) - Escursion on the Timavo River
Sul "Piccolo", quotidiano di Trieste, già da un pò m'incuriosiva la pubblicità di un'escursione sul fiume Timavo. Nei miei primi anni da uomo di mare avevo più volte risalito il Rio de la Plata dell'indimenticabile Argentina ed anche l'indonesiano Citarum dell'isola di Giava dove, fra l'altro, m'ero trovato faccia a faccia con 2 pirati armati di coltello, saliti a bordo di notte arrampicandosi sulla catena dell'ancora, sperando di rubare qualcosa a bordo della "Terry Two" vecchia petroliera ancorata alla foce del fiume in attesa dell'alta marea.
Quelli erano fiumi lunghi e profondi, mentre il Timavo, almeno fra Aurisina e Duino (mete della gita) è stretto e poco profondo. Alla fine la curiosità vinse ed eccovi il primo dei momenti più importanti della mia ultima esperienza: siamo al "Villaggio del Pescatore" e stiamo per imbarcarci per iniziare questo viaggio

Reading the "Piccolo", the daily newspaper of Trieste, I had been curious about an advertisement for an excursion on the Timavo River. In my early years as a seman, I had often sailed up the Rio de la Plata in my unforgettable Argentina and also the Indonesian Citarum on the island of Java where, among other things, I had come face to face with 2 pirates armed with knives, who came aboard at night by climbing up the anchor chain, hoping to steal something from the "Terry Two", an old oil tanker anchored at the mouth of the river waiting for high tide.
Those were long and deep rivers, while the Timavo, at least between Aurisina and Duino (destinations of our trip), is narrow and shallow. At the end, curiosity won and here is the first of the most important moments of my latest experience: we are at the "Villaggio del Pescatore" and we are ready to embark to begin this trip
