Ironman is a hero!!
Sooo, Fiona watches sports every night before bed. It's part of her routine. With autism, routine is very important, and for her she needs to watch sports every night and drink some chocolate milk in order to fall asleep. We have digital T.V. , so we have several channels for each station and for channel 5, they have an all sports channel that broadcasts all kinds of sports. Triathalons, cycling, water polo, extreme BMX, extreme skateboarding, beach volleyball, Olympics, speed skating, and the Ironman competition. We were watching the 2008 Ironman competition on T.V. and I was telling her about a person I went to school with that ran the Ironman competitions. She thought it was so cool and thought he was a hero. So I sent him a message to let him know that Fi was watching and what she had said about him. Anyway, he sent her a medal from one of his races along with his story of how he became an Ironman and when his next race will be. We took the picture to send him a thank you letter. Right now, the medal is being shared with the Elementary School and they are learning about athletes and inspirational figures in our community. He is definitely a hero in Fiona's eyes. Incidentally, she watched the same Ironman race again a few days ago. She can't wait until Nov. 22nd. That's when his next race is and she hasn't stopped talking about it.
