Napali Coast, Kauai, Hawaii

Every time we go to Kauai, we HAVE to take the hike. We only do one portion of it, 2 miles in to a beach that is only accessible by foot or boat. It is the most gorgeous hike ever! And that is saying a whole lot coming from an Oregon hiker! Our hikes around here are spectacular. But even with all that beauty there is one part of it that might hold a few back, no matter how careful we are, we all end up covered in that red mud. There are bogs of mud that there is no way to the other side except to give up and step on in. Sometimes the trail is so slick you fall down and can barely get back up. I told my grandkids to make sure and bring clothes and shoes for the hike that they would not care if they had to throw out when we were finished. As it turns out, we did not get a speck of mud on us this time! At one point we were caught in a huge downpour of rain and were drenched, but it was not enough to make the mud splash up on us as we continued on. The rest of the hike was sunny and gorgeous.
