Hungry Hawks
Red tailed Hawk (Buteo jamaicensis) - Pitt County, NC, USA
A pair of red tailed hawks feasting on a squirrel. I wish they had picked a more photogenic perch than a lightpole but I was still thrilled to have an opportunity to photograph these two. Here one of them drops a bit of offal. They were actually within sight of the nest and I kept thinking they were about to bring the squirrel back there but these two must have been pretty hungry as the the chicks in the nest only received a squirrel skin that didn't look like it had much meat left at all.
