Forest Gargoyle
Lowland Litter Frog (Leptobrachium abbotti) - Poring Nature Reserve, Malaysia
These were one of the most common frogs to see in the jungle at night, their loud "QUAK" calls echoing through the forest often betrayed their presence even when individuals couldn't be seen. I love the way these frogs sit on their toes with very little of their actual body touching the ground, it reminds me for some reason of a gargoyle. In order to photograph one in this pose it was necessary to carefully approach them without spooking it, oftentimes on seeing someone approach these frogs would hunker down in order to not be seen. Besides helping them avoid notice it also made them rather unphotogenic, so care had to be taken to approach these frogs without spooking them in order to get a photo of them at ease in a natural pose.
