Eared Frog

File-eared tree frog (Polypedates otilophus) - Danum Valley, Malaysia

This large tree frog is only found in Sumatra and Borneo and before coming to Borneo it was one of my main goals to find. I was pleasantly surprised when this frog ended up being one of the most common species and I saw it in a variety of habitats and locations. Like many of the other frogs these were most easily found around breeding areas which ranged from small artificial ponds to roadside ditches to naturally forming pools in the jungle, like many of the other treefrogs in the area eggs were deposited in foamy nests overhanging the water, when the tadpoles hatch they will wiggle out and fall into the the water below where they will complete their development.
