Rustic Art

Of the many vendors at Charlestown Riverfest, Joy Miller of Rising Sun and her Rustic Designs By Joy art are like a well placed and pleasing eye candy.

"It's recycled metal and garden art that I've been doing for 10 years. I looked at all the garden magazines and thought I can do that, " she said as she watched people walking around her work.

Her husband Tom Miller is the muscle for her shows and helps move the heavy pieces in his former work space.

"She's taken over the garage and threw me out," he said jokingly.

Her art isn't her bread and butter and she can't survive on the designs alone.

"I'm a nurse at Perry Point. Nursing pays the bills," she added.

Joy's show today was a lot of work to put together and she's not into traveling to festivals.

"North East is the one (show) I faithfully do. To do a show every weekend is just too much. I'm committed to the North East Garden Fest at St. Mary Anne's," she said.

Her craft began one tool at a time.

"I started with a plasma cutter and then a small welder and then I went to the big welder and started doing tractor parts," she said.

Her web site is www.rusticdesignsbyjoy.com.
