Side-valve sideshow
A block of downtown Lakeland was reserved for a cluster of old British Fords, transformed into customised street rods. Ford of Britain perpetuated production of their prewar entry-level Anglia (and later Popular) models until 1959, by which time they were veritable automotive anachronisms, even in cash-strapped and car-starved Britain. They were slow, plodding vehicles too, with their outdated side valve engines. This did not bother the American enthusiasts who gave the cars an astonishing personality transplant by shoehorning V8 Mustang engines into them. A brace of 1948 Ford Anglias is seen here, the one on the left being a Thames panel van version.
