Three rail routes converge at Ventimiglia: the Ligurian coastal line from Genoa; the route through the Piedmont mountains from Cuneo; and the SNCF line from Marseille. The French border is just 3-4 km away. The present station building was designed by Roberto Narducci (1887-1979) in a 1930s Italian Modernist style. It is one of 40 Italian railway stations attributed to him.
