Da Vinci (or is it Perseus?) at Amboise
Officially, this statue by Italian sculptor Amleto Cataldi shows Leonardo da Vinci as an ancient god. Situated on the Île d’Or, his likeness faces the Château d’Amboise, in whose one-time royal grounds da Vinci is buried. But Cataldi, whose cast the sculpture in 1923, did not identify the subject as da Vinci, nor was he ever involved in the sculpture’s eventual location in Amboise. An alternative view is that the subject is Perseus, the Ancient Greek god.
