Grimsby Town Hall

Grade II-listed building in the Italianate style, completed in 1863 and designed by Bellamy & Hardy and John Giles.

One detail that I had never previously noticed until I read the Wikipedia entry are the figures peering out above the top-floor windows. These are notable figures from GY’s history, including King Edward III, Archbishop John Whitgift, Gervase Holles, the 4th Earl of Yarborough, Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.

This is one of the relatively few buildings in Grimsby that excited Nikolaus Pevsner’s interest in his ‘Buildings of Britain’ architectural tomes.
