‘Owzat!’
I dropped into the St. Pete Museum of Fine Arts, specifically to see an exhibition on Bernini and his contemporary Italian baroque artists. There was also the unexpected bonus of a display of Royal Doulton Lambeth pottery of the early 20th century. The exhibits included this cricket-themed loving cup of c.1910. It was designed by John Broad, who was active between 1880-1919.
I can claim a personal connection with the old Royal Doulton works, which were located in Black Prince Road, London SE1. Doulton ceased operations there in 1962, but the grand Victorian Gothic offices have survived, these days subdivided into smaller units. Our little consortium set up business in one of those offices in 2007, where I enjoyed working until my retirement in 2015. The landlords today call the place The China Works.
