MB136 - a short story
The career of London Transport AEC Merlin MB136 (VLW136G) spanned just eight years, which was marginally longer than many of its sisters. New in 9/68, it was a single-doorway vehicle, with the original low driving position that proved unpopular with LT staff. MB136 operated from just one garage, Walthamstow (WW), from where it was withdrawn in 5/75. It was then loaned to London Country Bus Services (as shown by the paper notice in the nearside windscreen), allocated to Windsor Garage (WR). One route it worked under loan was the 335 to Watford Junction, where it is seen here. MB136 was returned to LT in 6/76, joining its out-of-use sisters at Radlett Airfield. It was removed for scrap in 11/76, eight months after this photograph.
