A busy Lakeland station (1913)
The old Atlantic Coast Line station at Lakeland, Polk County was just three years old at the date of this photograph . It was damaged by fire in 1919 and subsequently rebuilt. That station was in turn replaced by a new structure in 1960. Amtrak continues to serve Lakeland today, but its Silver Star service now calls at a station that was opened in 1998 at a new site, 1.1 miles to the east.
