Greyhound’s day of destiny

My Newark hotel was conveniently across the road from Newark Penn station, which building also serves as a bus depot for Greyhound and Bolt services - operations that in latter years had been in the hands of the UK FirstGroup plc. An organisation that has not been well-esteemed in its home country (“Worst Bus”), First had let it be known that it was keen to divest its Greyhound subsidiary. This duly happened on the very day of my photo of this Greyhound Prevost coach, when the German FlixBus organisation announced that it would add Greyhound to its portfolio. This culminated in less than ten years of operations by FlixBus, which came into existence when the German long-distance bus services. It swiftly rose to a predominant position in German and other European markets, and FlixBus is now well placed to become the US market leader too - just three years after it launched US long-distance services.
