HHH gives moral support
My visit to the Minnesota State Capitol in Saint Paul coincided with the Stop Line 3 protest by the Anishinaabe people about the potential environmental harm to their treaty lands that a proposed tar sands pipeline would cause. At particular risk is the cultivation of wild rice on those lands. Senator and former Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey overlooks the scene: he came to office representing the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party of Minnesota. The tufts of wild rice adorning his memorial suggest that he would have been sympathetic to the protest.
