Childhood cancer is the cruelest torment mankind has. cancer robs a child's chance at a normal childhood and replaces it with trials that could bring a grown man to tears.
you see, kids should live carelessly. they should live unsoiled by illnesses that threaten their existence. however, the world is a fucked up place where the innocent always pay the price. there are countless children who face cancer. to them, the simple tasks in life become unattainable and become tucked away for night time dreaming. some carry their childhood behind glass windows, prisoners to their own bodies looking in on the world the cancer took from them.
instead of running outside with friends, they are subjected to hospital beds. instead of joining in on playground games, they become the subject of ridicule. the life of these kids becomes a hell they cant escape.
yet even so, they stay positive and wishful. and through their disease they retain a beautiful spirit. these are the kindest and most noblest people on earth. a single look into their eyes and u feel their hope seep into you. they learn to grow up and become strong. they learn that cancer is real and so is survival.
this is a portrait of a very dear friend. she is the sweetest person on the face of this earth and like all my cancer friends, i would kill for her. Her story revelas a strong brave young girl. "I'm in love with life. sometimes its cancer, sometimes its heartbreak, but most times its just bein with wonderful beautiful people ."
She was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma, twice and the cancer forced her to leave school.
i feel this photograph captured a piece of her becuase i see her tender sweet character entertwined with a vulnerable child that hides within. Her name is Sophia and like me, she too, will survive cancer.
UPDATE: Sophia's Medulloblastoma has cleared! She is now a Survivor!
