Old City of Chicago Parking Lot #2
I'm old enough to remember when this sign was sharp and clear, stating the rates at this now-weed-choked parking lot that served the shopping district at 47th and Halsted, back when that intersection had every kind of business imaginable, anchored by Goldblatt's, Walgreen's, Drovers National Bank, Tasemkin Appliance and the People's Theater.
The parking lot in back of Goldblatt's, where Chavez School now sits, was a Christmas tree lot every December -- it's where we always got our tree in days gone by.
To the kids who live there now: You missed it all.
