18th Street, Central Station

"Prairie Avenue" would have been a perfect name for this newly-revitalized turn-of-the-last-century neighborhood, but the realtors, aware that parts of Prairie farther south have given the name a slightly unsavory reputation, decided to name it after the now-demolished llinois Central Station, which used to sit just north of here.

It's ironic. Prairie Avenue, Chicago's original Gold Coast, spent much of the last century as a down-at-the-heels slum.
