Japan 2011

by Rhys_Jones_Images

I made a visit to Japan from March 10 to March 23 to present my photographic work to members of the Kansai St David's Society in Osaka. The day after I arrived, an earthquake of Force 9.1 struck the North East Coast of Japan around the town of Sendai followed by a Tsunami. A nuclear power station was damaged in the earthquake and concerns about radiation affecting people's health and getting into the food chain have arisen. The Kansai region was not affected directly this time and the images show how life carried on and people remained calm although concerned for friends and family and concerned about rebuilding from this tragedy. For the record the area around Kobe in this region was devastated by an earthquake in 1995 : more than 3,000 people lost their lives. Earth tremors are a regular occurrence in this region.
