THe Bare Necessities
I WAS going to make this "rant" all about the shitty morning I had, but I couldn't. That would have, in my mind, defeated the purpose of the picture.
I take these pictures for one reason - to get donations. Not money, I certainly don't gain anything financially. I post the pictures, tell peoples stories, and put a name and a life to the faces. I ask friends on Facebook for donations of clothing and food.
I don't expect people to donate brand new stuff. I just let them know that, before they just throw that pair of pants out, I can give to someone who needs it for at least a couple of months until it gets destroyed.
Doing this has helped me realize a couple of things. First, I have it WAY better than I used to think I did. Any one of these guys would kill to have my tiny apartment and my stack of bills I "won" in my divorce. Two, there ARE still good people out there. Even with all the craziness going on and uncertainty in peoples lives, they are contacting me with things they want to donate.
On a morning like today and the "other" people I encountered, I have to keep reminding myself of that.
OK, I feel better now. Thanks for listening.
