For How Long (45-365)
Just like seemingly every other part of the city/suburbs/state, there is ongoing construction in the work hood. This also includes Lake Street, and the addition of a new stop at Damen. That involves tearing up the entire street for about a 1/2 mile stretch.
I understand the necessity for it. Progress, gentrification, growth...call it what you want. Again, I understand it. But that doesn't mean I won't miss it when it's gone. The textures, the ambience, the vibe will all be different. When I walk through old work neighborhoods and see how upscale they become, I feel like a complete stranger. I can only imagine how the people who REALLY grew up in these neighborhoods feel, seeing the "progress" that has been made.
