DSD55V A.1. Service Steeles
A.1.member Steele always went his own way when it came to bus purchases from when he came into the group. A connection to Yorkshire operators led to a number of purchases of Roe bodied vehicles from them and eventually led to the arival of a new Leyland PD2A YCS465. He returned to Roe for the last time in 1979 when he was amongst the last independents to place an order for the WYPTE style body on a Leyland Atlantean AN68A/1R chassis. If I remember right this didn't have power steering when new and in this shot taken when it's pretty new it has acquired accident damage. It was usually smartly kept and marked a return to the maroon band livery which Steele had abandoned in 1969. It went on to have a long career with Steele, being kept when the A.1. part of the business was sold in 1995 and was finally sold to Irvine of Law in 2000 and it was broken up by Dunsmores in 2002. In the background, one of James favourites NCS19P with it's original headlght and foglight arrangement. An acquired slide photographer unknown and with my copyright notice on it.
