Introduced by KW from Mt. Japvo, Assam during his 1927-28 expedition. Rh. bauhiniiflorum is closely allied to Rh. triflorum in all aspects of the plant except the corolla is flat and saucer shaped 3.8-4.3 cm across, while in Rh. triflorum it is funnel shaped, usually 2-3.6 cm across.
