Barcelona, right after the Spanish Civil War with its countless victims and cruel warfare including the absolutely pointless bombing of Guernica. A little boy, Daniel, discovers a book in a true labyrinth of books...
The beginning of a great novel: The shadow of the wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon (2001).
This composition reminds me very much of that story, with its mysteries waiting to be unraveled by the reader yet retreating into the shadows whenever you are getting too close.
Especially the slivers of fog evoke a very strong atmosphere, where you can almost hear the silence, only disturbed by the muffled steps of the two lovers and the beating of the wings of the birds circling the tower of the church.
