Sadly, these red and blue veils are now dying out and being replaced with the plain black ones so common throughtout the Islamic world. Fifteen years ago, when I first went to Yemen, all the highland women wore these colourful style ones. Today it's mainly only the old who wear them. The fashion in black comes from the influences of Saudi and it's version of Wahabisim.
