Lapping up Raindrops
I found out what these are! They are called Mimulus, which means to mimic or imitate, and are also known as the Monkey Flower.
They are a member of the snapdragon family, which I can see now, but had been previously mesmerised by their orchid-like markings.
Known as the Monkey Flower, some species have flowers shaped or painted like a monkey's face. I can see that here, wide eyes and tongue hanging out to catch raindrops ... reminds me of two little monkeys I know (though not so little now), laughing in the rain!
