Teh Tarik (Courting After School 1950s Style)
This wall installation is created by Cheo Chai Hiang and display at the South Beach Development for the Singapore Biennale 2008.
Teh Tarik (in Malay literally mean pulled tea), a term for hot white tea frothed up and cooled by pouring it from one cup in one hand to the other, with the arms almost outstretched to increase pouring force. As a result the tatse of the tea is different, by a light froth.
In Teh Tarik (Courting After School 1950s Style), 2008 the texts at the top of the installation in Chinese and arranged in the formation of two cups, while their English translations are at the base, also arranged to form two cups. The two cups on each side are connected to each of the bottom ones by strings of neon lights
The installation jn itself has possible substantive meanings.
