Moffat Tunnel

As I sit at the restaurant at the conclusion of another spectacular trip, I did a quick edit on this image. This is what we came for, golden aspens and mountain railroading. The East Portal was tops on my list, and after missing a train here earlier, our patience was rewarded by this Eastbound loaded crude oil train.

Out of all the shots planned on this trip, this was the top of the list. Completed in 1927, the Moffat Tunnel bypassed the steep and treacherous grade over Rollins Pass. The 6.2 mile long tunnel runs right through the heart of the Rocky Mountains.
