Classic Vermont

I was headed to Burlington, Vermont for the weekend for a bachelor party and since I had time to kill on the way up, I figured that I would try to find something to shoot.

A couple of friends told me that Burlington to Rutland freight BDRD was usually through Middlebury around 14:00. My original morning objective, Rutland to Bellows Falls freight 263 was reported to have a leased leader, so I opted to shoot New England Central instead on the way to kill time. A thick fog bank foiled my idea there, so after only chasing them a short distance I continued North to Middlebury.

Due to track speeds of 40 mph and congestion on busy Route 7, chasing this line can be challenging. I decided to opt for quality over quantity after seeing the classic Vermont scene off the Cross Street Bridge. After waiting about an hour, BDRD emerged from the tunnel running along Otter Creek with matching red Geeps. Freshly painted 206 was leading. This locomotive was built as a straight GP38 for the Southern Railway in September 1969 as their 5744.
