Rural Retreat, Christmas Eve, 1957
With a little imagination, this could be Christmas Eve, 1957 in Rural Retreat, Virginia as O. Winston Link recorded his famous audio capturing the final days of N&W steam. The final edit of the recording which captured a J class locomotive with the N&W Pelican and the bells of the Lutheran Church was actually recorded a couple of days later as Link was not satisfied with the original 12/24/57 recording. In reality, this scene is in Strasburg, PA in October of 2019 but it is probably as close as I will ever get to the timeless recording many of us listen to every Christmas Eve. Thanks to my buddy Adam Horgan for the idea on this post.
