Sitting Pretty

The Grapevine Vintage Railroad Cotton Belt Route train is seen preparing to depart the historic Fort Worth Stockyards. The Stockyards were built in 1887 as Fort Worth had become a major shipping point for cattle after the railroad arrived in 1876. The city was known as "Cowtown" and was the last stop for supplies and rest before cattle drivers crossed the Red River into Indian Territory. Grapevine 2014 is an EMD FL9 that was built as New Haven Railroad #2041 in 1960. A brief climb on an electrical control box offered this elevated close-up of the sharply painted unit.
