Early Into Essex

The Eastbound Empire Builder passes the famous Izaak Walton Inn just before making the flag stop at Essex station. The inn was built in 1939 by the Great Northern Railway to house workers on this busy stretch of mountain railroad. This train is about to cross Marias Pass at the Continental Divide and head East through the plains. A major blizzard is in progress East of the Continental Divide.
