Cinquefoil etc - Malverns

Much of the Malverns is covered by a low green sward, dense in places, made up of hundreds of different species of flowering plants and grasses, many of them microscopic, eking out an existence on the poor soils to be found here. These photos were taken during a visit by Redditch U3A Exploring Science Group .

There are many species of plants in this shot but the obvious one is a Cinquefoil. Wikipedia says :- 'Potentilla /ˌpoʊtənˈtɪlə/ is a genus containing over 300 species of annual, biennial and perennial herbaceous flowering plants in the rose family, Rosaceae. They are usually called cinquefoils in English. Potentilla are generally only found throughout the northern continents of the world (holarctic), though some may even be found in montane biomes of the New Guinea Highlands.'
