Present occupants of Chysauster - mainly heather, grass, ivy and ferns
I've been to Chysauster a couple of times and find it both evocative and moving. It is situated on a south west facing slope a couple of miles inland from Penzance. All the house entrances are positioned away from the prevailing south west wind and the houses are well dug into the hillside. The houses are rooms clustered around a central courtyard and often slightly higher - maybe making it easier to sweep them out. Having reached an age when warmth and comfort matters to me quite a lot I appreciate the efforts of the Chysauster inhabitants in trying to provide similar conditions for themselves.
